We as good and responsible boaters are part of Homeland Security by being the eyes and ears for the US Coast Guard on US waterways. SAFTEY PRECAUTIONS FOR BOATERS • Always secure and lock your boat. • Take your keys with you. • Disable your engines when storing your boat for extended periods. • Do not stop or anchor under a bridge. • Observe and avoid all secure areas. • Stay away from commercial, military, fuel, cruise line, or hazard material docks. • Keep at least a 100 yard safety zone from all commercial and military vessels or come to a complete stop. • REPORT all suspicious activities to the USCG or local authorities Fact:90% of all boating fatalities happen in boats under 20 feet long while being operated by someone with little or no formal boating education. Moral is; Buy a bigger boat and get some good instruction. Remember the mandatory Washington State boating education card started to be phased in this year. Get yours early!!! |
